LCL stands for less than container load. It means that more than one customer owns the goods loaded inside a shipping container. The advantage of LCL is that it’s cheaper than FCL because the customer only pays for the container space occupied by his/her goods. The disadvantage of LCL is that the customer doesn’t have full control of his/her shipment. For instance, a customer may not be able to use his/her one customs broker/agent to clear his goods, especially in countries where it’s not possible to use more than one customs broker to clear a container. Hence, LCL is more suitable when the customer has much fewer goods than will fill up the container and the logistics provider is reliable and honest.

LCL stands for less than container load, where multiple customers share space in a shipping container. This method offers cost savings by paying only for the space used, but it may limit control over the shipment, especially concerning customs clearance in some regions.
